People who have achieved this unit standard will be able to moderate outcomes based assessment by either observing the assessor or moderating a portfolio of evidence. They will also be able to register as a moderator at their relevant ETQA.

Entry Requirements: 

A learner wishing to enter this course does need previous moderation experience. It is assumed, though, that the learner has a good understanding and knowledge about the outcomes being moderated at a theoretical and practical level but that does not necessarily include practical ability in the outcome. Must have been found competent against the US 115753, Conduct OB Assessment, or equivalent.

Duration: 

Four days including completion of portfolio.

Who should attend?: 

The training is suitable for trainers, ETD’s, HR and line managers, supervisors, subject matter specialists, coaches and mentors who need to:

- develop assessment instruments;
- moderate workplace assessments;
- manage training quality assurance;
- evaluate training to NQF standards;
- evaluate prior learning.

What’s in it for the learner?: 

The learner will be able to moderate assessment in terms of the relevant outcome statements and quality assurance requirements. It will also allow the learner to moderate RPL assessments.

Assessments: 

The course runs over four days.
Interactive workshop where learner conducts a formative moderation and receives assistance to complete portfolio. The learner must hand in a completed portfolio on the last day of the workshop, after planning for and conducting two summative moderations during the workshop

Certification: 

Once a learner has been declared competent, his/her results are forwarded to the ETDP SETA for endorsement. A nationally recognised certificate is issued which give learner automatic entry into the Certificate programme.

On completion of the workshop: 

On completion of the workshop, learners will be able to, and understand :

- The need for quality assurance of assessments.
- Principles and methods of moderation.
- Moderation processes and procedures.
- Moderation of assessment instruments.
- Moderation of recognition of prior learning assessments.
- How to write a moderator report and support and develop assessors.
