
Techno-Economic Analyst at Minerals Development Company Botswana
Job Description
Main Purpose of the Job:
To provide technical support combining technical expertise with economic analysis to inform investment decisions related to mineral assets/projects.
We’re looking for a results-driven Techno-Economic Analyst to support Minerals Development Company Botswana’s investment decisions. This role involves conducting in-depth techno-economic analyses for potential new developments and business opportunities—including acquisitions, joint ventures, and expansions—to determine their financial viability.

Key Responsibilities:
- Investment Assessment: Develop and analyze investment models for mineral projects and opportunities.
- Assess the commercial viability of opportunities, including validating technical and operational assumptions, forecasting costs, revenues, and profitability, and conducting risk analysis.
- Track investment performance, define success metrics, and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Investment Asset: Assist in establishing and tracking the risk items of potential investments and assets within the portfolio.
- Financial Analysis: Develop and analyze financial models and reports to ensure assessments are accurate and compliant with investment criteria and accounting standards.
Key Focus Areas:
- Align with MDCB’s investment goals
- Engage key stakeholders and decision-making bodies within agreed timelines
- Develop and manage key risk models for the next 10 years and key performance indicators for mineral investment opportunities
- Continuously evaluate and report on all potential investments and assets under management
- Ensure models and reports are accurate, compliant, and relevant
- Provide recommendations, modeling insights, and risk assessments to determine commercial viability and next steps
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced deterministic and probabilistic quantitative modeling
- Strong technical report writing and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong leadership abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interact and influence at all levels
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics/Finance & Investments, Engineering, or a related field
- Master’s degree or experience in mineral resource economic analysis, mining project valuation, or commodity markets is an added advantage
- Multi-disciplinary skills with operational and/or project development experience in minerals are an added asset
- Experience in financial/economic modeling and/or the investment industry is essential
- Registration with a professional body
