Job Description
Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd operates the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub district. The plant was commissioned in April 2012 and has gone on to achieve exceptional performance. It is the source of some truly special diamonds. The plant completed major upgrades that include introduction of X-Ray Transmission (XRT) technology in diamond recovery. This is adding to the already existing innovative application of autogenous milling in diamond processing. The Company is embarking on projects, which entail enhanced large diamond recovery.

Job Summary
Implements fire protection strategies and fire prevention and protection program in all areas of the Mine to ensure compliance to the mine’s standards and statutory regulations

– Fire detection and alarm systems
– Suppression systems (sprinkler, foam, CO₂, inert gas).
– Fire pump systems and water storage capacity calculations.
– Installation layouts and zoning of fire systems.
– Interface of fire systems with other emergency systems (e.g., HVAC, emergency lighting, PA systems).
– Ability to interpret fire protection drawings, schematics, and specifications.
– Working knowledge of relevant local regulations and industry best practices.
– Understanding of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and emergency preparedness clauses.

Qualifications & Experience
– Diploma in Fire Technology, Fire Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline
– Degree in Fire Engineering would be advantageous.
– Knowledge of applicable legislation i.e. Mines, Quarries, Works and Machineries Act
– Knowledge of the National Fire Protection Association Standards.
– Knowledge & application of relevant software packages
– MS Office Proficiency
– Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fire safety management, with emphasis on fire detection, suppression systems, and emergency preparedness.
– Affiliation with the Institute of Fire Engineers
– Driver’s License
– 151 Legal appointee.
– Proven experience in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and auditing of fixed and portable fire protection systems (e.g., sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, fire alarm systems, gas suppression systems, and extinguishers).
– Fire protection standards such as NFPA, SANS, BS, and other relevant codes
– Experience in fire risk assessments, fire drills, and emergency evacuation procedures
