Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) is the leading telecommunications provider in Botswana, offering a comprehensive range of services including fixed-line and mobile voice, broadband internet, and data solutions. Established in 1980, BTC was initially a government-owned entity with a monopoly on telecommunications services. However, in 1996, the government amended the BTC Act to introduce competition, allowing for the entry of private mobile operators such as Mascom Wireless and Orange Botswana .
In 2012, BTC transitioned from a statutory body to a public company and was subsequently listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) in 2016. This move marked a significant step in the liberalization of Botswana’s telecommunications sector .

Headquartered in Gaborone, BTC operates a nationwide network comprising approximately 7,300 kilometers of microwave radio and fiber-optic links, connecting 12 main processors across the country. The company is also involved in regional connectivity through its investment in submarine cable systems like the East Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy) and the West Africa Cable System (WACS) .
