CEDA

The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) is a government-owned financial institution in Botswana, established in June 2001. Its primary mission is to promote viable and sustainable citizen-owned business enterprises by providing financial and technical support. CEDA was created in response to recommendations from the National Conference on Citizen Economic Empowerment (NCCEE) held in July 1999 and the 4th Evaluation of the Financial Assistance Policy (FAP) completed in May 2000. These reports highlighted the need for consolidated support for business development to promote citizen entrepreneurship, which was found lacking among a large majority of citizens .

CEDA offers a range of services, including:

• Loan Finance: Funding for capital expenditure, stock, or working capital in new and existing business ventures.

• Equity Funding: Providing equity participation in businesses to support growth.

• Lease and Property Loans: Financing for the development or acquisition of real estate, specifically for commercial or industrial purposes.

• Credit Guarantees: Offering credit guarantee schemes to assist businesses in accessing finance.

• Business Advisory Services: Providing training, mentoring, and business advisory services to entrepreneurs.

• Specialized Programs: Initiatives like Mabogo-Dinku, Chema Chema, and Letsema Horticulture Market to support specific sectors and promote citizen economic empowerment .
