About Company
Cheetah Cement Botswana is a significant player in Botswana’s cement industry, operating a modern production facility in Matsiloje, near Francistown. The company commenced operations in February 2022 with an initial production capacity of 36,000 tonnes per year. By mid-2023, it aimed to scale up production to 900,000 tonnes annually, surpassing Botswana’s domestic demand of 620,000 tonnes per year.
The plant’s establishment, backed by a US$40 million investment, was facilitated by the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC). This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce the country’s reliance on imported cement, potentially saving over US$90 million annually.
In terms of trade, Cheetah Cement Botswana imports raw materials like cement clinker and gypsum from Namibia and exports finished products, including Portland cement, to neighboring countries such as Zimbabwe.
The company produces two main types of cement: Portland 42.5 N and Portland 32.5 N, catering to various construction needs.
