About the Role

 

 

As the Risk and Compliance Officer, you will play a vital role in safeguarding our reputation and the safety of
our property portfolio. You will be responsible for monitoring compliance, conducting inspections, managing
compliance documentation, and supporting the development and implementation of company-wide policies across all our operations.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

• Ensure all properties meet relevant legal and regulatory compliance standards, including fire safety, occupational health and safety, and local property laws.
• Conduct regular site inspections and address compliance-related issues promptly across Turnstar’s property portfolio.
• Advise on best practices for compliance and support the development of policies and procedures.
• Liaise with all the relevant stakeholders to streamline compliance processes and ensure timely submissions.
• Investigate incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement in compliance and risk management.
• Support companywide initiatives such as ISO accreditation and other quality standards. General and Operational
• Monitor compliance with Botswana Data Protection Act, Anti-Money laundering and Counter-Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) laws, and applicable regulations in other jurisdictions.
• Implement and monitor the Operational Risk Management Framework, including maintaining a Risk Register, tracking control measures, and reporting exposures.
• Act as Cluster Information Officer, ensuring adherence to internal and external data management and privacy laws.
• Lead awareness and training campaigns to promote a robust compliance culture throughout the organisation.
• Conduct compliance audits and coordinate responses to internal and external audit requirements.
• Liaise with executive management, legal counsel, and the Board on risk and compliance issues, including preparation of compliance reports.
• Stay updated on changes to applicable laws, regulations, and compliance standards, and communicate these to relevant stakeholders

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Risk Management, Compliance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in compliance, internal or external audit, enterprise risk, or a related
administrative role – preferably in the real estate, financial, or listed companies.
• Strong understanding of real estate laws, data protection act, AML and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proactive, solutions-driven mindset with attention to detail.
• Experience with compliance documentation, risk assessment, and working with multiple stakeholders.
• Proficiency in office management tools and property management systems will be an advantage.
