1) TAILINGS SUPERINTENDENT

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

 

The Tailings Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing construction supervision, contract execution and tailings operations associated with the mining operation and site rehabilitation. This position ensures compliance with company policies, standards and regulatory requirements in ensuring safe tailings management strategies. This role integrates process engineering, maintenance coordination, legal compliance, and stakeholder engagement to optimize tailings deposition, water recovery, and dam integrity.

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:’

 

Your key accountabilities include:

 

– Overseeing construction contract execution and tailings operations to ensure compliance, quality, and safety.
– Managing Technical Queries (TQs), QA/QC processes, contractor performance, and managing variations within budget and scope.
– Tracking project schedules, monitoring daily operations of the TSF, and driving progress to meet milestones.
– Addressing issues arising in tailings process, facilitating problem solving with contractors, and maintaining safe tailings management site.
– Integrating and communicating cost, schedule and compliant tailings management aligned with metallurgical and environmental strategies.
– Supporting CAPEX/OPEX budgeting, cost-saving initiatives, and operational improvements.
– Contributing to overall environmental strategies and sustainable mining practices.
– Leading rehabilitation projects to minimize environmental impacts.
– Ensuring all required permits, compliance and approvals for tailings-related projects.
– Supervising and mentoring site tailings and contractor staff in safety and best-practices.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

 

– Degree in Civil Metallurgy Engineering or Project Engineering or related field.
– 10+ years of experience working on TSF projects, preferably with experience of Upstream Construction methods.
– Bulk earthworks field experience.
– Experience in site and contractor management.
– Experience in Mechanical/Pipeline Engineering related to TSF infrastructure.
– Experience of working on remote projects, preferably in Africa.
