Job Description

Role Responsibilities

Collections Portfolio

  • Oversees collections portfolio at regional level.
  • Develops collection’s strategies to ensure that customers bring their indebtedness to order.
  • Initiates and implements effective strategies to minimize portfolio arrears.
  •  Uses risk management tools to pro-actively identify, analyse, manage and monitor possible fraudulent activities
  • Ensures the achievement of the Agency collection targets by minimising arrears and collecting on arreared accounts.
  • Supervises Collections Officers in the region.
  • Evaluates accounts for foreclosure and makes recommendation to the Collections manager.
  • Understands and complies with Agency lending policies, procedures, regulations and criteria.

Client Relationship

  • Negotiates payments with clients.
  •  Counsels clients.
  • Negotiates, resolves conflict and agrees upon courses of action, and bargains for Agency advantage.
  • Addresses customer complaints & queries.
  • Informs clients about products, and relevant processes across a wide portfolio.

Resource Management

  • Complies to budget and works to contain costs at all times.
  • Manages own and others’ service delivery against dynamic client needs, with focus on both internal and external clients.
  • Supervises collections officers.

Reporting

  • Prepares monthly collections reports.

Governance

  •  Ensures compliance to regulations and corporate governance principles.
  • Enforces client agreements with deep understanding of collections agreements, credit terms / policies/ processes / conditions.
  • Implements remedial collection strategies.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Business, Accounting or related area.

Professional

  • A professional banking qualification such as Associate of the Institute of Bankers or equivalent.

Experience

  • At least four years’ experience in collections, project appraisal/credit assessment or credit management with the Agency or similar financial institution, banking or similar area concerned with the development of entrepreneurial and business skills. Hands on knowledge of Botswana’s business environment is necessary.
