Solid Reinsurance is looking for a highly experienced and dynamic Principal Officer / Operations Manager to lead our operational and underwriting excellence and drive the company’s strategic objectives from inception.
Role Overview: The Principal Officer Operations Manager will be the key operational expert for Solid Reinsurance, overseeing all aspects of operations, underwriting, and claims management, as well as statutory obligations of a Principal Officer, ensuring adherence to the guidelines and regulations set by Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) and setting up the operational framework and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement and review of policies, guidelines, strategies and procedures for monitoring the risk profiles of various insurance products offered to policyholders.
Supervise the risk profiling of all licensed insurers in line with the company’s business objectives, assessing the seriousness of identified risks, providing advice and recommendations to the company and advise on the appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Supervise the development of risk profiling models for underwriting insurance, reinsurance risk exposure and claims probability of failure.
Supervise the utilization of insurance industry quantitative and qualitative data for formulation of risk analysis, insurer’s risk profiles using actuarial and statistical methods and techniques.
Supervise the assessment of inherent risks, governance, risk mitigation and control, at an insurer’s level, for the determination of the probability and impact of insurers’ failure.
Manage the assessment of the company’s aggregate exposure to problematic claims, advising on the company’s exposure to the reinsurance markets.
Lead special off-site surveillance and on-site examination of the insurers portfolio to assess risk, ensure early warning and preparedness for failure.
Supervise assessment of compliance of licensed insurers with penalty payments imposed by the regulator and made to the company by various other statutory bodies/regulators.
Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring the Department’s annual budget and work plans in line with the Strategic plan.
Supervise implementation of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the insurers, particularly regarding underwriting, insurance Risk Monitoring.
Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, mentoring, training and development of staff to ensure an efficient and effective team.
Ensuring that the company’s operations are conducted in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations. This includes establishing and maintaining internal procedures that are conducted in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations, and establishing and maintaining internal compliance programs as needed to ensure ongoing compliance.
Establish and oversee the company’s operational framework, policies and procedures.
Lead and optimize all functions including underwriting, finance, and compliance.
Be the key main point of contact with NBFIRA, reinsurers, brokers, and key stakeholders.
Ensure strong operational risk management, and regulatory compliance practices.
Develop business strategies and operational plans aligned with company objectives.
Provide timely operational and financial reports to the Board and Exco.
Lead, mentor, and develop staff to build a high-performing team.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
Professional qualifications such as ACII, AIISA, ARe, or equivalent are required.
Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in insurance/ reinsurance, with at least 5 years in senior management.
Strong knowledge of the Botswana insurance/reinsurance regulatory environment, particularly NBFIRA requirements.
Proven ability to establish systems, lead operations, and ensure compliance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
