3) ARTISAN ASSISTANT ELECTRICIAN x2

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

 

 

The Artisan Assistant Electrician will be responsible for carrying out routine installations, maintenance work, and assisting Artisan Electricians on both planned and repair work, on electrical machinery and associated equipment, to ensure optimal plant availability and reliability to achieve production targets, while working in a safe and secure work environment.

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

Your key accountabilities include:

 

 

  • Obtaining work orders from Artisan Electricians and Technicians and seeking necessary authorization to work on isolated equipment, following laid-down lock-out procedures prior to commencement.
  • Inspecting equipment and switchgear under the supervision of Artisan Electricians, either visually or by using specialised testing equipment.
  • Removing equipment from site to a maintenance workshop for refurbishment, decommissioning, or disposal as per daily, weekly and monthly planned maintenance and condition monitoring schedules.
  • Carrying out portable electrical equipment inspections and other associated equipment checks monthly as per schedule and under the direction of Artisan Electricians.
  • Conducting pre-installation tests on buildings and field equipment before handing over to Artisan Electricians for authorisation.
  • Performing troubleshooting and fault-finding on breakdowns and carrying out minor repairs on defective equipment, following modification and replacement guidelines to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Complying with work instructions assigned by Artisan Electricians, ensuring adherence to required standards and completion timelines based on task complexity.
  • Adhering to switching programmes and isolation procedures to maintain operational safety and compliance.
  • Ensuring adherence to work schedule requirements, including installation inspections, data collection, and configuration activities.
  • Inspecting installations and wiring to ensure compliance with statutory and IEE regulations.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

 

 

  • Trade Test B, Level 1 Certificate or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years hands on relevant experience working
  • Basic understanding of electrical power systems, transformers, MCC’s, VSD’s etc.
  • Understanding of domestic electrical installations
  • Knowledge of SSHE procedures
  • Exposure to Mine Processing Plant will be an added advantage
  • Exposure in working around Boreholes, Water & Sewage Treatment Plants will be an added advantage
  • Electrical diagnostic skills
  • Understanding and interpretation of electrical diagrams
  • MS Word, Excel
