Main Purpose (Why Does the Role Exist)

 


The Group Chief Operations Officer is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Corporation and its subsidiaries, driving them with the Letshego Group strategic plan, operating budgets and capital budgets. This role entails the implementation of effective operational and financial procedures, identifies revenue opportunities, enhances profitability, and promotes healthy balance sheet growth across all subsidiaries. The COO also monitors the macro environment, to leverage technology innovations, and innovations to drive efficiency and share, the business model and is technology and operations and will oversee all shared services.

 

 

Education

 


• Bachelor’s degree Information & Technology or equivalent.
• Master’s degree/MBA is advantageous

 

 

Certifications

 


• Industry Appropriate

 

 

Experience and Skills

 


• Extensive Experience: Minimum 15 years in financial services, with at least 7 years in senior management roles.
• Regional Leadership: Proven experience leading a regional company and managing complex transitions, such as moving toward a retail bank-lite’ model.
• GOO Expertise Across Geographies: Successfully led operations in multiple geographies, ideally within Africa.
• Strategic & Performance Leadership: Ability to translate vision into actionable roadmaps while navigating African market complexities.
• Operational & Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of banking operations, compliance across financial, legal, HR, and risk areas.
• Technical & Financial Proficiency: Expertise in risk capital management, regulatory compliance, technology, budgeting, and project management for strategic projects.
• Leadership & Cultural Agility: Skilled in communication, influencing diverse teams, fostering collaboration, and aligning strategies across cultures and regions.

 

 

Critical Deliverables / Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 


• Develop and implement a world class operational strategy that integrates People, Process, Technology, Business Transformation and Shared Services.
• Responsible for serving as the custodian of operational policies and procedures of the business. Ensure that the policies are up to date, well communicated, enforced and to advise on changes to enhance the business.
• Develops revenue opportunities across all locations of the business that result in increased profitability and quality balance sheet growth in all subsidiaries.
• Ensures that business cases for local investment are developed, socialized and contribute to development and bottom line impact in conjunction with the Group Exco.
• Stimulates competitive advantage to the business, supporting business strategy and proactively responding to business needs.
• Ensures adherence to all financial control policy and other related policies / procedures by ensuring the following are in place: budget planning, cost control and reconciliations.
• Ensures that the highest level of customer service management is maintained and the changing customer needs and requirements are recognized and adopted.
• Ensures opportunities to utilize and implement emerging technologies into Letshego’s practices and operations.
• Delivers on new ways of working I.e. Enterprise Agility to create better speed to market, increased staff engagement and better customer solutions across the Group.

• Operational Efficiency: Improve operational efficiency by streamlining processes and reducing turnaround time.

• Risk Management: Ensure effective risk management practices are in place to mitigate operational risks.
• Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of the company’s strategic plans and initiatives.
• Talent Development: Foster a high-performance culture by attracting, retaining, and developing top talent.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including internal teams, clients, and regulatory bodies.
• Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Technology Advancement: Drive technological advancements and innovation to improve operational effectiveness and deliver enhanced customer experiences.
