  1. DEPUTY RTFE (RESPONSIBLE TAILINGS FACILITY ENGINEER)

 

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

 

 

The Deputy Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (DRTFE) works under the guidance of the RTFE and will be responsible for assisting in managing and monitoring risk compliance, regulatory governance, and construction supervision at the TSF. This permanent site-based role oversees safe and sustainable TSF operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), while contributing to environmental stewardship and public safety through both in-person and remote collaboration.

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

Your key accountabilities include:

 

 

  • Collaborating with the Tailings Superintendent to ensure safe design, construction, and decommissioning of tailings facilities, including preparing and maintaining Construction Records Reports.
  • Implementing the design and maintaining the integrity of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) through operational oversight and monitoring construction works, including managing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) and assisting with review and closeout of Technical Queries.
  • Managing water balance modelling for the TSF and supporting TSF development programs by designing, planning for future works, and reviewing design and other technical reports.
  • Becoming thoroughly familiar with the Design Basis Report, Design Report, and the Construction and Performance documentation of the TSF.
  • Providing support to the RTFE in managing overall safety and compliance of TSF structures by monitoring operational activities on site to ensure conformance with the Operating Manual, procedures, MMG, and Global Standards, and managing programs to improve current performance.
  • Reviewing and reporting on statutory environmental compliance requirements.
  • Monitoring and reporting the status of critical controls associated with TSFs, including reviewing and reporting on Trigger Action and Response Plans.
  • Applying Management of Change (MoC) processes to maintain operational integrity.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the TSF team and appointed contractors.
  • Liaising with the Tailings Superintendent to coordinate technical and operational matters.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

 

 

  • Degree in Civil/ Metallurgy Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum + years of experience working on TSF projects, preferably with experience of Upstream Construction methods
  • Familiarity with GISTM and ICMM
  • Experience with geotechnical monitoring software (AutoCAD or similar)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to conduct field assessments and manage contractors/ consultants
