1. PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Project Accountant supports the financial administration of mining projects by monitoring budgets, processing cost data, and maintaining accurate records. They assist in reporting, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide timely financial information to project managers and finance teams to help control costs and guide operational decisions.
CORE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:
• Tracking project expenditures against approved budgets and flagging variances for corrective action.
• Assisting in identifying cost-saving opportunities and verifying proper allocation of expenses across workstreams.
• Reviewing and process vendor invoices, ensuring timely payments, and reconciling with contractual terms.
• Preparing monthly financial summaries, forecasts, and variance analysis for project stakeholders.
• Maintaining detailed financial records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
• Ensuring financial activities align with contractual obligations and flagging non-compliant transactions.
• Liaising with project managers and procurement teams to validate financial data and resolve discrepancies.
• Monitoring project-related cash flow and assisting with planning to ensure liquidity for upcoming commitments.
• Utilising accounting and project systems, e.g., SAP and Oracle, to enter data, extract reports, and support financial workflows.
• Ensuring all financial transactions follow internal controls, company policies, and applicable accounting standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
Minimum Experience and Knowledge:
• 3–5 years’ experience in project accounting.
