*11. PROCUREMENT SUPERINTENDENT
*BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
To lead and optimize procurement operations with a strategic focus on Chinese sourcing and vendor management. The role ensures the efficient acquisition of goods and services from China, leveraging Mandarin fluency and deep knowledge of Chinese procurement systems, regulations, and supplier networks. By aligning procurement activities with project goals, the Procurement Superintendent plays a critical role in cost reduction, risk mitigation, and timely delivery—while upholding compliance, safety, and ethical standards across the supply chain.
*CORE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:
• Ensuring that all Chinese suppliers and Botswana-based contractors meet Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) requirements before onboarding, including factory audits and site-level risk assessments.
• Leading the end-to-end sourcing of mining equipment, spares, and consumables from China, ensuring alignment with Botswana project timelines, technical specs, and cost targets.
• Overseeing adherence to Chinese export regulations (e.g., MOFCOM, CIQ, CCC) and Botswana import laws (BURS, SADC protocols), ensuring all documentation—laptao, certificates of origin, and customs declarations—is accurate and audit-ready.
• Managing freight operations from Chinese ports (e.g., Ningbo, Shanghai) to Botswana via Durban or Walvis Bay, including inland transport to mining sites and customs brokerage.
• Tracking China-origin purchases and delivery schedules using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Kingdee), ensuring data consistency across Chinese and Botswana platforms and compliance with both countries’ data protection laws.
• Monitoring and responding to risks such as currency fluctuations, shipping delays, regulatory changes, and geopolitical developments that could impact China-to-Botswana procurement flows.
• Building long-term partnerships with Chinese manufacturers and logistics providers, while fostering collaboration with Botswana-based contractors to support localization and technical knowledge transfer.
• Mentoring procurement staff in Botswana and coordinating with Chinese vendor teams, promoting cultural fluency, ethical conduct, and technical competency in international sourcing.
• Setting KPIs for supplier performance, conducting spend analysis and implementing cost-saving initiatives across the China–Botswana supply chain.
• Upholding company policies, anti-corruption standards, and procurement procedures across all engagements, while performing additional duties as assigned by leadership
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
*Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or related field; professional certifications in procurement or Chinese trade compliance are advantageous.
*Minimum Experience and Knowledge:
• Minimum 8–10 years’ experience, including 5+ years in Chinese vendor management and 3+ years in mining or industrial procurement.
• Must be fluent in both Mandarin and English
• Must possess deep understanding of Chinese business etiquette and negotiation styles.
• Proven leadership in cross-cultural procurement teams across China and Botswana, with strong stakeholder engagement.
• Skilled in international logistics, including Incoterms, port handling (Durban/Walvis Bay), and inland transport to Botswana mining sites.
• Proficient in ERP systems (Kingdee, UFIDA, SAP) with cross-border data reconciliation and reporting accuracy.
• Expert in Chinese sourcing platforms (Alibaba 1688, Made-in-China, JD Supply Chain) and vendor lifecycle management.
• Strong regulatory knowledge of Chinese export documentation and Botswana import protocols (BURS, SADC).
• Experienced in mining sector procurement, including sourcing heavy equipment, PPE, and process chemicals from Chinese suppliers.
• Dedicated, and possess excellent teamwork and communication skills, with quick thinking and logical clarity.
• Willing to undertake Botswana business trips and work abroad on a long-term basis.
• In-depth knowledge of translation and techniques for English Chinese language pairs.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Dedicated, and possess excellent teamwork and communication skills, with quick thinking and logical clarity.
• Willing to undertake Botswana business trips and work abroad on a long-term basis.
